Valentine Fun!!

What are your favorite Valentine traditions?  We love Valentines day and have a few fun traditions. We love to cut out hearts from construction paper and decorate the walls ...

and the cupboards.

We love to make Valentines and send them to Grandmas and cousins.

We also love to make special Valentine treats

These "semi-homemade" treats are really yummy and easy to make.  Karalee and I had a lot of fun making them this afternoon.  It is a big bonus when your kids want to "help" you make something and their help is actually helpful and since these treats are so easy, Karalee's help was helpful and we had a good time together.  I got the pretzel hug recipe from my friend Holly.  The Pecan Turtle recipe is from my mother-in-law via my sister-in-law Jennie's food blog.

 Pretzel Hugs
1 bag pretzels
1 pkg. M&M's
1 pkg. Hershey "Hugs"

Place pretzels on baking stone or sheet.  Place a Hug on each pretzel and bake at 200 degrees for about 8 minutes (just watch for the Hugs to melt.)  Remove from oven and promptly place M7M's on each pretzel, presseng into the melted chocolate.  Allow to cool before serving.  At room temperature, this takes several hours.  I would recommend making these the day before you plan on eating/delivering.  Or you can put them in the refrigerator to speed up the process.

Pecan Turtles
1 bag of Rolos
an equal number of pretzels
an equal number of pecan halves

Unwrap rolos. Place a rolo directly over the center of the pretzel. Put in a preheated 250 degree oven for about 5 minutes.  You want them to get soft but not loose their shape. Remove from oven and immediately place a pecan on top of the rolo and press down. Allow to cool. You can put these in the fridge for a few minutes to let the chocolate harden faster.

A quick tip:  You can also make these using the microwave.  You can place them in the microwave for about 10-15 seconds to soften the rolo.
