Letter - Written by Karalee this week

Since I was gone to a youth fireside with Chad and the boys Karalee wrote this week's letter for me.  She did a great job!
I hope you are all doing well.  I would love to hear about your week.  I'm sure Karalee would like to hear your thoughts about her letter!

Mindy

Hi ,this is Karalee. I am writing a letter for my mom because she went to a fireside. This week on Monday my family went to a tennis court. I didn’t like it very much so I just played on my dad’s phone. My mom tripped, and she has a big bruise. Then my family was lazy and we watched movies the rest of the day. On Tuesday I got to join with the other 4th grade classes in music. It was pretty fun because I was by my friend. On Wednesday I had P.E., and my class did yoga. It kind of hurt. On Thursday my class usually doesn’t have music or P.E., but this Thursday my class had music because we had to practice for an assembly to on Friday. On Friday my class did the September 11th assembly, and there were 2 soloists. My music teacher didn’t pick me, but I wasn’t sad because I would probably be scared. I had P.E. this Friday and did yoga in the music room because the other P.E. teacher was doing fitness testing. It was fun in the music room, but my class had to be quiet. After school and after Spencer got home from school at 3:30, my family went camping. We ate Arby’s for dinner. At night we played UNO and scum. My mom packed Spencer’s clothes because he was at waits, and she forgot his jacket. It was really cold that night, and Spencer and Bryant were in hammocks.  I was really cold that night, and I wasn’t in a hammock, and I was in a jacket. I woke up like 10 times, and I was not comfortable that night. We woke up, and ate bacon, eggs, and pancakes. Then we packed everything in the car drove to where we started to hike, and started to hike the 2 mile hike. When we hiked to the waterfall no one wanted to get in because it was cold. Then Bryant slipped in the water. Then he went down the waterfall. Then I promised Spencer if he got in I would go in. I thought he wouldn’t go in, but he did so I had to go in. The coldest part on my body when I went in was my face. I don’t know why my face, but it was the coldest.  Someone said there was another water hole, but when we hiked to it, it was really green and gross so we just hiked back to the car and drove home. We ate at Wendy’s. I was tired, and my feet were tired so I took a nap until dinner. We had sausage egg cheese croissants, eggo waffles, cereal, or burrito bowls.  Today Bryant woke  up at 5:30 because he had some kind of meeding. I woke up at about 7:00. Marlee, Bryant, and me played skip-bo.

Karalee

Letter - Weedy Gift, A Woman's Happiest Kingdom

Monday, September 05, 2016

Happy Labor Day!  We’ve had a relaxing long weekend in our home.  We finished up a few projects around the house on Saturday but mostly we have just relaxed and done as we’ve pleased.

Last week went well.  Sunday night we started watching Mina Anderson.  She is being raised by her grandparents.  They used to be in our ward before it was split this spring.  The grandparents were going out of town and needed someone to watch Mina.  Mina has a tender spot in my heart.  I was her nursery leader when she first moved in with her grandparents, then I was her primary president and watched as she learned to sit still instead of run all over the primary room.  We’ve watched her for one night before, but this time it was for five nights!  She can be quite a handful, so I was a little leery, but she was a good girl and aside from her taking something that didn’t belong to her when she left it was a good experience.  I will watch her again if I’m asked though.  She’s had quite a rough life and I like to give her love.

Monday Spencer got his permanent brace off his finger and was cleared to play football again!  He has to wear a removable brace for practice and games for another month, but he’s happy he can play now.

Tuesday Bryant had an orthodontist appointment.  I had cub scouts.  Chad and I played volleyball that night.  We still play almost every week.  I sure love it.

Wednesday I finished pulling all the weeds out of the garden as a surprise for Chad so he wouldn’t have to do it before he filled in the holes in our yard that had pearl scale in them.  It felt so good to see him walking back to the house on Saturday morning with an empty trash can because I had already removed all the weeds.  It was worth the sore hamstrings I had for a few days after that.

Thursday Tilly and I made cookies for her cookie exchange at preschool while learning about the letter C.  That afternoon Marlee and Tilly had choir practice.  They are in the Gilbert Youth Choir.  That evening I had scout round table to learn about re-chartering.  I’m not looking forward to re-chartering.  I’ve heard it is frustrating.

Friday evening Spencer and Bryant went to their friend Blake Taylor’s birthday party.  Chad and I stayed home with the girls.  He watched a movie and I read Little Women.

Saturday morning Chad and the kids shoveled and hauled some dirt from the garden to fill the holes in the yard (luckily we had too much dirt in our garden) while I made some fruit, puff pastries.  I read most of the afternoon while Chad and the kids played and watched movies.

Saturday night Chad and I went on a date to the temple to do initiatories and then went out to dinner.  At the temple there was a cute little old lady, who was stooped over, walked with a cane, and couldn’t see very well.  She brought the most amazing spirit with her to the temple though.  I told her that I felt like she brought a special spirit with her and she said, “oh good, I was worried about that today.”  She was so sweet.  She made me feel good to be around her.  I met another lady at Brenda’s birthday party who also made me feel like a million bucks.  They both made a big impression on me.  I’ve thought about why they made me feel so good and I think it is because they have exercised and developed their faith and it radiates around them.  I hope to be like that.

Yesterday we found out that Chad is going to be getting a new calling.  We have a pretty good idea what it is, but we will find out for sure tomorrow night in a meeting with the 2nd counselor in the stake presidency.  Are you so curious???  Don’t ask me what it is yet though.  You’ll just have to wait.  Last night we invited five families from our ward over for cookies and visiting.  There were kids running and playing all throughout the house and fun conversation among the adults.  It was a fun evening.

Chad helped Tilly give a talk in Primary yesterday.  Hopefully it is ok to take a picture in there.  I know it is not ok to take pictures during sacrament meeting because there is an ordinance that takes place, but hopefully its ok in primary.
Sunday family fun

The kid's boxing ring.  Spencer told Tilly that he was going to have a boxing match with her.  She said, "ok, I'll go get the boxes." And ran out to get some boxes.  Ha ha.
I finished reading Little Women late Saturday night.  It is one of the best books I have ever read.  I want to be so good after reading it.  I love how the book depicts the love between the mother and daughters in the story, the morals that were beautifully expressed throughout the book and the marriage advice for new mothers in Chapter 38.  It is a wonderful book.  My quote today is from that book.  “A woman’s happiest kingdom is home, her highest honor the art of ruling it not as a queen, but a wise wife and mother” (Louisa May Alcott, Little Women, pg. 381).

Love,
Mindy

P.S.
Thank you to Jennifer Lee, Crystal, Hunter, Shelby, Jake, Molly, Sarah and Brenda for responding to my letter last week.  I haven’t forgotten about your surprise.  Hopefully you’ll get it this week!

P.S.S.
Here are some more photos from this week.

Chad finished refinishing our kitchen table.  It looks wonderful.
I got a pretty bruise today.  It turned purple within a couple of minutes.  I tripped while walking.  I did a nice belly slide though and didn't get scraped enough to bleed so at least that good.  It was just embarrasing.
Chad and the kids watching something funny.

I am still laughing about the funny thing Amy's daughter Sally said about my brother Travis.

Letter - August life

Sunday, August 28, 2016

Last Sunday night I didn’t write because we were playing games as a family and I wanted to participate instead of spending the evening at the computer.

I’ve spent a lot of time learning about my cub scout calling, learning about what I will need to do in the rechartering process, doing online training, fixing the tracking program we use because some of our boys got deleted, getting adult leaders, including myself, and several boys who were split into the new ward registered into our ward’s troop.  I’m starting to learn to like Cub Scouts.  I still don’t really like it, but I’ve decided to stop whining about it and do my best.

I delivered and mailed off surprises to those who responded to my letter on Aug. 7th where I said, “I sure hope things have been going well for you and your families.  If you write me back and let me know how you’re doing I just might send you a surprise!”  Thank you Jennifer Lee, Jewel, Jayze and Lindsey for writing me!!  I hope you each enjoyed your surprise.

Chad went with Bryant on his scout camp out on Aug. 19th.  They had a good time, except Chad’s back went out again as they were loading up.  He originally hurt his back digging up some pearl scale that has infested our grass in the back yard and unloading all the infested dirt at the dump.  We sure hope we have been able to get rid of all the pearl scale.  We’ve heard it is leprosy for grass and that we might as well just move because it is so hard to get rid of.  Chad’s back is feeling mostly better now and he was able to play volleyball and basketball again this week.

Spencer, Karalee, Marlee, Tilly and I went out for dinner while Chad and Bryant were camping.

Last Saturday night, Aug. 20th, we had a ward adult game night at the church.  It was really fun.  It was a good way to get to know members of our new ward and break the ice.  There were some really fun group games and lots of funny moments.

Friday, Aug. 26th, we held a party for Brenda’s 60th birthday that is coming up next month.  Heather planned it and we just held it at our house and helped with drinks and an appetizer.  There were several people who came, our home wasn’t quite big enough for that many people, but it was still a nice time.  It was fun to celebrate Brenda’s wonderful, service filled life.

Yesterday Chad started a big project of refinishing our kitchen table.  Both of us noticed as we were cleaning up the house for Brenda’s party how worn it has gotten.  He also trimmed our trees too.  He’s had lots of Saturday projects lately.  We still need to get the holes in our yard filled from where he removed all the pearl scale.  I also would like to have him replace all the wood in our side RV gate and other little gate that leads into the back yard so he’ll have stuff to keep him busy for a while.  Last night Chad and I went to dinner with Rich and Camille Kempton, a couple from our ward.  They are a fun couple and it was nice to visit with them and get to know them better.

Today I got to sub Tilly’s primary class.  It was so fun.

My quote today is from a comment Sis. Jackson in our ward made in relief society last week.  “Seek to understand before seeking to be understood.”  I think this is very wise and would help prevent many misunderstandings.

Love,
Mindy

P.S.  If you write me back and let me know how you are doing I would love it.  I might send a surprise!

P.S.S.  Here are several other pics from Aug. 14-28th.  Enjoy.

Tilly's blanket cape.
I love Chad's ability to work from home from time to time.  It is literally a cushy job when he's working at home.
Another day ... another life saved!  I'm glad I'm able to donate blood.
Tilly got ahold of my phone.  I love her cute selfies.

Chad took Marlee to a d-backs game.  He got free work tickets with all you can eat hot dogs, popcorn, soda, etc.
Bryant's first time to go to the temple.

Spencer still has his lawn mowing business.

The girls and I watched Beauty and the Beast.  She got scared of the Beast and ran into the closet to hid, but had to peek at the movie too.
Karalee and Marlee weren't scared.
Spencer invited his friend Carson over to play ping pong.
Karalee got to go to her friend Natalie Sedig's birthday party and make a necklace.
Tilly's cute bee costume and bird she made while learning about the letter B at preschool.
Tilly asked me to take a picture of her little town.
