Letter - Shelby's wedding, broken water heater, conquer your fault

Sunday, August 07, 2016

The first week of August has come and gone.  It has been cooler here in Gilbert than normal, still high 90’s, but it is very humid.  I’ve liked the change in the weather though.  Monday I did yard work to get our yard ready for our ward Activity Day girls to come play on our waterslide for their activity on Tuesday night.

Tuesday since it wasn’t too hot I finally did a project I’ve wanted to do for a while.  I painted Tilly’s old toddler bed black, bought some patio pillows and a crib sheet to match the new pillows to transform it into a front porch bench.  I love how it turned out.

That evening the activity day girls came over for their activity.  Karalee was excited to have them all come to our home.  Marlee and Tilly were excited they got to be part of the activity too!  About 40 minutes into the activity we got a HUGE monsoon rainstorm.  It was wonderful.  It rained and rained and rained, making it exciting for all the parents as they came to pick up their girls.  After the activity I rushed straight to the church through the rainstorm to attend a court of honor for the boys.  We got soaked running into the building.  Bryant earned his Citizenship in the Community merit badge.  His first merit badge!  Spencer earned his Communications and Personal Fitness merit badges.  Spencer has now earned all the merit badges he needs for his Eagle.  Now he just needs to do a project and write it up and then he’ll be an Eagle Scout!!

Wednesday Tilly and I hosted an activity for our LBC (Lonely Babies Club).  The kids played on the waterslide while the other mothers and I visited and watched them from my air conditioned family room.  I had such a fun time catching up with my friends that morning.

Thursday morning I went to Cub Scout round table.  I don’t remember much else I did that day, besides doing laundry, picking up kids from school, cooking dinner and all that other normal, day to day stuff.

Friday morning Chad was able to work from home for most of the morning so I was able to go to the temple.  After that I came home and cleaned up the boys’ room and our spare room so Darrell, Crystal, Kari, Ray, Raya and Rory could come and stay with us that night.  They came down for our niece Shelby’s wedding.  They got into town around 7:30pm and we met at Texas Roadhouse for dinner then we came back to our house and watched the Olympics Opening Ceremonies.  I was sure glad to have them stay with us.

Yesterday was my niece Shelby Dana’s wedding.  She married Jordan Ward.  They make a cute couple and the wedding, luncheon and reception were very nice.
Spencer and Bryant watched the girls, Amy's kids and Raya while we went to the wedding and the luncheon.

I love Shelby's happy smile!
Tilly loved the dancing.

Last night just before going to bed we noticed our carpet was wet in the family room.  Our water heater that is located in the garage just behind the family room wall had been leaking.  Tomorrow morning we’re going to have to go buy a new water heater and have it installed.  Luckily for us we still have running water even with the hot water turned off and since it is summer time it wasn’t too cold for a bath this morning (our showers don’t work with the hot water turned off).  Our dishwasher won’t work either, but washing dishes by hand for a day or two won’t kill us.

Today I got to substitute teach Marlee’s primary class.  It was so much fun.  I think my new dream calling would be to team teach a primary class--I would like to have someone team teach with me so I wouldn’t have to teach every Sunday. J Today Bryant was recognized in Sacrament meeting for receiving his Faith in God award.  Since he turns 12 this coming Friday they also went ahead sustained him to receive the Aaronic Priesthood.  He will be ordained next Sunday.  This was an interesting Sabbath afternoon for Chad and the boys.  Chad got a text that a family in our ward came home from church to a flooded home.  A part in their upstairs sink broke while they were gone.  Water was dripping from the light fixtures.  So Chad and the boys changed into grubby clothes and spent a couple hours bailing water out of their home and helping to get things moved and dried out.  My boys were a little shocked that Chad and I asked them to do this on the Sabbath Day, but we explained to them that when an accident happens, sometimes you have to take care of it on the Sabbath.  Their flood makes us grateful that our water heater leak didn’t do too much damage.
Yesterday afternoon Marlee went with me to Goodwill to see if we could find anything nice at their 50% off day.  Marlee bought a tub of Tinker Toys for $3.  She and the kids have been having a great time playing with them.

Tilly is in jail.
Well that about wraps up my week.  I sure hope things have been going well for you and your families.  If you write me back and let me know how you’re doing I just might send you a surprise!

My quote for today is from Little Women by Louisa May Alcott.  The quote I’m going to share comes just after Jo, one of the main characters in the story, confides in her mother that she feels discouraged about trying to overcome her bad temper.  To which her mother wisely replies, “Watch and pray, dear, never get tired of trying, and never think it is impossible to conquer your fault.”  I think that is great advice.  I love reading Little Women.  I’ve never read it before, but I enjoyed the movie when I was little so I decided to read the book.  They book is even better than the movie.

Love,
